Kathleen “Kathy” Wasowski received her initial degree in physical therapy from UCSF and her doctoral degree in physical therapy from Creighton University. She has taken over 80 physical therapy seminars and has never stopped wanting to learn more.
Kathy has worked in a wide variety of clinical settings ranging from private practice owner, hospital inpatient (including critical care, high risk neonate and postpartum), head of work hardening program/ergonomic assessments in hospital and local light industry, home care, and Stanford outpatient orthopaedic physical therapy clinic. She is bilingual in Spanish.
Due to her diverse educational and practice background, Kathy has a very eclectic approach. For more than 20 years her patient focus has been working with persons with chronic pain in many sites with the emphasis on teaching self-care. She uses manual therapy including trigger point therapy to allow patients to regain movement more easily, and modifies exercises, ergonomics and activities for each patient to give them a customized program that best meets their current needs to regain a full life.
Her specialty treatment areas are hypermobility syndrome/EDS/POTS (50% of patients), chronic spinal and myofascial pain, pelvic health issues (pelvic floor/abdominal pain, prenatal/postpartum issues, bladder/bowel challenges, osteoporosis), and ergonomics/body mechanics.
Kathy is also passionate about teaching whether she is teaching patients how to help themselves or teaching short term courses to physical therapists here and abroad. Kathy previously taught Sports Massage at De Anza College for eight years.
Her philosophy of practice is a firm belief that all patients can improve their physical status and quality of their life with physical therapy, especially when working in a patient centered partnership with their therapist. After work, Kathy relaxes working in her garden, reading, hiking, cooking and socializing with family and friends.
