Custom Orthotics

What is Custom Orthotics?

Each step you take is a complex interplay between muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons. Our feet do a lot for us! But they can also create pain and injury that can be relieved through custom orthotics. Custom orthotics are individually shaped and fit insoles used in conjunction with a full evaluation of movement from a skilled physical therapist. Physical therapists are experts in movement and some are uniquely trained in custom orthotics.

What should I expect in my custom orthotics visit?

First, you and your physical therapist will have a conversation around your medical history. They will want to know if you've had any previous injuries, surgeries, or medical conditions that may be affecting your condition. In addition, they will want to know a detailed description about your lifestyle, activity levels, and symptoms. You will also discuss your future goals to ensure alignment.

Secondly, your physical therapist will look at how your entire body moves. Additionally, they will test the strength and mobility associated with your movement. Our feet have to support our entire bodies so there maybe be weak or tight areas elsewhere that affect your foot condition. Your physical therapist has extensive education in movement analysis to understand these connections to your symptoms. Lastly, your physical therapist will discuss their findings with you and create a mutually agreed upon treatment plan. In addition to custom orthotics they may recommend, your physical therapist will usually give you a home exercise program specific to their exam findings. They will provide you advice, education, and activity modification when appropriate. In conclusion, we want you to leave Agile feeling good, confident, and informed about your condition.
