Sharmaine Calma
Meet Sharmaine
Sharmaine Calma, PT, DPT, is a licensed physical therapist specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy and orthopedic rehabilitation. She is passionate about helping people move with strength, confidence, and purpose through personalized, one-on-one care. Sharmaine believes that lasting results begin with truly listening and understanding not only the injury, but also the person behind it and the goals that matter most to them.
Sharmaine provides pelvic floor physical therapy in San Mateo and Burlingame, helping patients address conditions such as pelvic pain, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, urinary incontinence, core weakness, and other pelvic health concerns. She integrates pelvic health principles into musculoskeletal care to support women and active individuals through different stages of life.
She earned her Bachelor of Physical Therapy in the Philippines, where she ranked third overall on the national licensure examination, and later completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Montana.
After moving to the United States, Sharmaine practiced in New York City, where she served as a lead physical therapist in an outpatient clinic treating musculoskeletal, neurologic, and pregnancy-related conditions. She later worked at Spear Physical Therapy, an award-winning clinic recognized for clinical excellence, where she treated a wide range of patients including runners, weightlifters, post-surgical patients, and individuals seeking pelvic health physical therapy.
These experiences shaped her patient-centered approach to care. Sharmaine strives to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their rehabilitation. Her treatment approach combines pelvic floor rehabilitation, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and movement education to help patients restore function and return to the activities they love.
Sharmaine has completed advanced coursework through APTA Pelvic Health and continues to pursue further specialization in women’s health physical therapy and pelvic floor rehabilitation.
In 2026, she relocated to the Bay Area and is grateful for the opportunity to provide pelvic floor physical therapy in San Mateo, Burlingame, and the surrounding Peninsula communities.
Outside the clinic, Sharmaine enjoys strength training, short runs, exploring local cafés, and discovering the Bay Area’s vibrant food scene with her husband, who is also a physical therapist.
